My children encourage me and make me happy. Whenever I see my children, that is what has sustained me to this day. I enjoyed playing with them and sharing Anansi stories with them. That is what makes me happy.

At the age of nine years, I developed a boil on my hip. I was taken to the hospital, and I was injected in the boil, but I was affected by the injection and got paralyzed.

I was living with my mom in the village, and there I met my husband. He performed the knocking ceremony, and we started dating. In the course of that, I got pregnant, and I gave birth to two children. He left me, and later, I met another man and had one another child with him as well. He left me too, so I was taking care of the children sole-handedly.

That was my painful moment in life when he left. I loved him very much. I knew he left me because of my disability, and he left all three children on me. When I remember, I cry.

My first child left me and traveled to the city. I don’t know his whereabouts. The second one is in this community, and he is married with two children. The third one is a lady and is married and is living with a husband who has two children.

I sell petty things – vegetables and fried cassava to support myself little by little.

My children encourage me and make me happy. Whenever I see my children, that is what has sustained me to this day. I enjoyed playing with them and sharing Anansi stories with them. That is what makes me happy.

What are your strengths and abilities?

One of my children brought goods to me, and I would sell them.

What are your hopes and dreams for you and your children?

My hope is to get some good capital to expand my business. It is a hand to mouth business that I am doing. I am sometimes able to save some, but there is not much capital.
